Justin Tuck Osi UmenyioraBreaking news concerning Giants defensive ends Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora for week 4 vs the Arizona Cardinals of the 2011 NFL season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Justin Tuck will probably be ruled out for today’s game which is to be played in Glendale, Arizona. On the other hand Osi Umenyiora is very likely to play this afternoon at University of Phoenix Stadium.

It’s good news followed by bad for the G-Men who can’t seem to field their key starters at the same time. On a positive note it has been reported that wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham will both play in this game.

NY Giants Osi Umenyiora May Play Week 4 vs Cardinals

Osi Umenyiora NY Giants FootballNew York Football Giants DE Osi Umenyiora hinted there is a chance he will play in week 4 versus the Arizona Cardinals.

Osi had limited practice on Friday and reported he was feeling much better. This is positive news for New York and it’s fans who have been eagerly awaiting the talented defensive end since he had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this summer.

Umenyiora has had a turbulent off season due to contract negotiations which have turned sour. He still had two years left on his contract but felt he had played well enough to warrant a new extended contract and the Giants did not oblige.

After Friday’s practice session the Giants Defensive End was quoted saying Continue reading

Osi Umenyiora Where Are You?

NY Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora is back for the 2009 season after missing 2008 due to injury.

Number 72 anchors what some believed to be the best defensive front four in football, a few sports news anchors even went as far as saying this was the best front four in NFL history. I am sure they would like a do over on that statement as the G-Men have been less than stellar this season.

Osi is now in his seventh year and has had some success in the NFL. His best years however came when he played along side Michael Strahan which cannot be overlooked. In 2005 Umenyiora had his best statistical year raking up 70 tackles (48 solo) and an impressive 14.5 sacks. His second best year statistically came in 2007 where he had 52 tackles (40 solo), 13 sacks and helped the New York Giants win their third Superbowl.

When Strahan retired after 2007 most people figured the void would be filled by the talented tandem of  Osi and Justin Tuck. Justin seemed to always play second fiddle when analysts discussed the Giants front four but he proved last season to be an excellent defensive lineman. With the return of  Umenyiora and the added experience gained by Tuck and Mathias Kiwanuka the front four was poised to be unstoppable in the minds of fans and analysts. No one stopped to think how huge a void was left by Michael Strahan who warranted a double team leaving opportunities for the rest of the defensive line. Most just figured Osi would easily take over and they wouldn’t miss a beat.

Did he buy into the pre-season hype? Where is the physicality at? Through 7 games Osi has 3 sacks and 14 tackles (9 solo), this isn’t what Big Blue fans expected from our talented Defensive End. Mathias Kiwanuka has out played him with 19 tackles (15 solo) and 3 sacks. Umenyiora has been a non factor this season, a game can go on without his name even being mentioned, not even to say he put pressure on the quarterback.

It is surprising to see number 72 being manhandled by opposing linemen in the trenches, maybe he needs some of that 5 hour energy drink he promotes to get him going. What ever he needs I hope he finds cause Tuck cannot do it by himself and Michael Strahan isn’t coming back!

Osi Umenyiora Loves Strippers

Looks like Osi Umenyiora loves hanging with strippers and for the looks of it they are loving it back. As long as he keeps playing like a pro and doesn’t shoot himself in the leg he can hang with who ever he wants including these sexy NY Giants fans. If he sends me an invite I may even join them.

Osi Umenyiora Shares Training Regimen

NY Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora shares his tough training regimen. Former NFL football player Chuck Smith provides the training that results in the furious pass rushes we see on Sundays.

Osi Umenyiora Touchdown

The best play from the week one NFC East matchup between the NY Giants and Washington Redskins was made by Osi Umenyiora. He forces a fumble, recovers it and then runs in for the touchdown. Osi displays a lot of emotion in the endzone after the score. He was out all of last year after an injury which took him months to recover from.

NY Giants Beat The Redskins

Week one of the 2009 NFL season starts on the positive side for the NY Giants who easily defeated the Washington Redskins.

The final score was 23-17 but it wasn’t even that close. Big Blue dominated time of possession and the game. They still had some red zone issues, failing to get into the end zone with more consistency but there were some very positive moments that should make Giants fans very happy.

The running game was excellent even against a tough defense like Washington which includes big Albert Haynesworth. We did however lose Danny Ware who is an intricate part of our running game. He was set to be the third down running back and also the replacement for the recently departed Ward. He was hurt on the very first play of the game and it is still unclear for how long he will be lost for.

Steve Smith and the rest of the wide receiving core did a great job, this included a nifty touchdown by Mario Manningham. Hakeem Nicks dropped the first ball thrown to him but later made a very good catch in traffic. he also was hurt after twisting his ankle, preliminary reports are that he has a sprained ankle.

The defense lead by Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck was as expected. They put a ton of pressure on Campbell who looked flustered most of the time and very uncomfortable.

All in all the first week was a great success and good warm up for next weeks tough matchup versus the Dallas Cowboys.
