The NY Giants shutout the Tampa Bay Bucs 24-0 in week 3 of the 2009 NFL season.

On paper the game looked as it should be an easy win for The G-Men but there are always possibilities of a let down with these type of matchups. Big Blue did not have a let down game though, they totally dominated the Bucs on both sides of the field. They controlled the time of possession and on defense they put a ton of pressure on QB Byron Leftwich.

The G-Men finally got 3 scores in the red zone but lets not forget they were playing Tampa Bay. There were a couple of questionable calls by offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride which were pretty frustrating to watch. In one series the Giants were within 15 yards (red zone) and Gilbride calls 3 straight runs which were all stopped. Even when New York was at 3rd and 10 he called a run, which was stuffed.

Brandon Jacobs had a sub-par game in my opinion even though he carried 26 times for 92 yards, his running has become very soft. On a positive note Ahmad Bradshaw had a great game running for over 104 yards and averaging 7.4 yards per carry. Eli Manning threw for two touchdowns and was 14 for 24 and threw for 161 yards. Manning was pulled from the game and replaced with David Carr in mop up time. Steve Smith continued his good play with 7 catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. Smith made some key catches to help preserve drives. Even Sinorice Moss got into the action catching his first pass of the year for a touchdown.

An easy win for Big Blue who has come from two tough back to back matchups versus NFC East rivals.

Whether you call it the Red Zone or the Green Zone like Tom Coughlin refers to it, the Giants have major issues when it comes to scoring from inside the 20.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride has expanded the playbook this year when it comes to the passing game but he has yet to address the issues in the zone.

Last year we were ranked twentieth in the NFL when it came to scores within the twenty yard line. This is surprising considering the potent running attack the NY Giants had last year. New York was the number one rushing team overall and had an ability to power run with Brandon Jacobs. They provided a change of pace with Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw who were great in the open field but seem to bottle down when we hit "The Green Zone".

The first two weeks of this 2009 season are a continuation of 2008 it seems. I watched both games and noticed how we moved the ball with ease especially in the Dallas game where our passing attack could not be stopped. As soon as Big Blue gets within the twenty yard line our offense stalls. The plays called by Gilbride have to be questioned sooner or later. We were one of the best regular season teams last year despite shooting ourselves in the foot (no pun intended to Plaxico, it was the leg) with our red zone deficiencies. Can we get away with these issues this year? We have till now but sooner or later our luck will run out and we will lose a game due to our lack of scoring the easy touchdown. It may even happen at the worst time during a playoff game.

Kevin Gilbride needs to be more creative when it comes to our green zone plays. We are too predictable, run on first down, run on second down and throw on third. The plays being called when we are not within scoring range are more creative and unpredictable, we need more of that when we are close to the end zone.

Brandon Jacobs also has some blame, he runs right into the pile instead of bouncing the run out and then looking for the hole to explode into. He also needs to be more assertive, he dances around as if he was a 185 pound back instead of his 270 pound frame. The G-Men could have had a very easy win this past Sunday vs The Cowboys if they would have scored within the twenty yard line. They made that game harder than it should have been, I cannot stress that enough.

Here is a stat for you, in 2008 the Giants had sixty nine plays within the red zone but only converted thirty five touchdowns. That is unacceptable!

Sunday nights football game between The NY Giants and The Dallas Cowboys had all sorts of crazy plays and highlights. Here is a compilation and summary video of the best plays of this NFC East game in week 2 of the NFL season. Giants win 33-31.

The NY Football Giants beat The Dallas Cowboys 33-31 in their spanking billion dollar stadium. Tony Romo had a horrible day while Eli Manning had a great one.

New York still experienced many issues in the Red Zone and truly made this a closer game than it should have been. Lawrence Tynes missed an easy field goal and NY failed to score touchdowns in the red zone on 3 occasions coming away with only field goals.

Tony Romo was not sacked but did feel the pressure which led to 3 interceptions. His stats were terrible 13-29 for 127 yards. Surprisingly enough Dallas was able to stop the Giants potent running game but they could not stop Eli Manning and his young receiving core most notably Mario Manningham and Steve Smith who both had 10 catches and over 100 yards and each scored a touchdown.

Eli Manning was 25-38, threw for 330 yards and 2 touchdowns. He led Big Blue down the field in the last two minutes and helped position them for the game winning field goal by Lawrence Tynes. Let us not forget the great job the New York offensive line did in this game, they created very nice pockets and provided ample time for Eli so that he could pick the Cowboys defense apart.

Kenny Phillips was a standout on the defensive side with 2 interceptions and so was Bruce Johnson who intercepted a ball from Tony and ran it back for a defensive touchdown.

This was an impressive win for the Giants, they were missing 6 starters, including key players in Aaron Ross, Kevin Dockery and Chris Canty. They silenced 105,000+ in Dallas on Sunday night.

The NY Giants gave us what NFL Films considers the greatest play in Super Bowl history. In my opinion this may be the greatest play ever in the NFL

I never get tired of watching this video. Eli Manning makes incredible effort to get away from the Patriots defenders who are grabbing and pulling on him and his jersey. Some how he manages to get away and throw a bomb down field.

Leaping high in the air with Rodney Harrison draped all over him, David Tyree makes the greatest catch ever. As Harrison pulls and swats at the ball, Tyree some how secures the ball against his helmet and manages to keep a death drip on it till the end. No matter what you want to call it, "The Miracle Play" or just "The Catch" there is no doubt it was the most amazing play in NFL Super Bowl History.

The NY Giants 2009 season starts later today and we will have a classic NFC East matchup against the Washington Redskins.

The Skins have revamped by adding free agents and none larger (literally) than Albert Haynesworth. They always play tough defense but so do the New York Giants. This is a great game to start the new NFL season, and test our young core of wide receivers.

The running game led by Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw should lead the way even with the absence of Ward who is now in Tampa Bay. Eli Manning who has progressed and matured as a football player every year is now considered the leader of the team and a true veteran, of course winning a Super Bowl with a last minute drive certainly helps the cause. Our veteran offensive line is back with every starter, they are considered one of the top lines in all of football.

The defense, well what can you say it should dominate! Osi is back this year, Tuck has more experience and the additions of Canty and others should help keep our core fresh and ready to put a hurting on Campbell who is shaky at best. There s been much talk about the defensive line, some have even copared it to the best of all time.

No more talking, it's time to play the game and show everyone that even out Burress we can dominate not only the NFC East but the NFL! The road to the Superbowl starts today!

The 2009 version of the NY Giants features a brusing defense, good running backs and a wide receivers carousel which is virtually the only question mark for this new NFL season.

Super Bowl hero David Tyree is no longer with the team but that still leaves a cluster of unproven players which on paper have a ton of potential but have yet to be tested on a professional field. Steve Smith is the veteran of the group after the departure of Plaxico "I shot myself in the leg" Burress and Amani Toomer. Smith has been a good roll player for a couple of years but has yet to display number one receiver potential. Domenik Hixon also has some experience but last year proved he cannot be considered a number one. I also remember him for a clear touchdown drop on a perfect pass by Eli Manning versus the Eagles. Sinorice Moss has dropped to third in the depth chart on the right side which puts him behind at least 4 other players.

The rest of the core consists of talented college players some who are recently drafted such as Hakeem Nicks who seems to have a great work ethic and positive attitude. Ramses Barden who is a huge receiver standing 6'6", 227 pounds, he has shown some flashes of big play ability during training camp but still does not have a great grasp of the offense. Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan have also shown some potential but one thing is to do it on the practice field and another thing is to do it game day.

There is no doubt about the potential each one of these players has and Giants fans in New York can only hope for that potential to translate into success on the gridiron for the upcoming season. If these wide receivers cannot play up to their potential other teams will flood the box and have a better chance at stopping the powerful running attack.

There were several trade possibilities available which would have filled the need for a number one but the asking price from teams for these players were pretty ridiculous. On top of that the free agents demanded extensions or restructuring of their contracts in order to make them happy.

Management has been very good at evaluating talent and hopefully this year the evaluations were correct. The NY Giants have a great team and are pretty stacked at many positions, the only question mark is within the carouself or wide receivers. If they pan out there is no reason why Big Blue can't be Super Bowl Champs once again.
