Since 2006 when Romo first took over as QB replacing Drew Bledsoe during a game versus the NY Giants, Dallas fans have been patiently and eagerly waiting for his unlimited potential to take them to the Super Bowl. Five years later that supposedly unlimited potential is starting to look much more pedestrian.

Is Tony Romo talented? As a New York Giants fan I have watched many NFC East games and try to catch Cowboys, Redskins and Eagles games as much as possible. I can't deny that Tony is talented and is an above average athlete, anyone who would deny that is just plain silly. But unlike ESPN's Skip Bayless who found a way to blame Jessica Simpsom for Romo's woes I can be objective enough to realize talent alone doesn't take you to the promise land.

As fans we can lose our objectivity, I try not to even with my hometown teams. I have been criticized by friends who are Yankees fans cause I never thought Bernie Williams was a great player. I liked Bernie but he was just a good player not a Yankee great. When it comes to the New York Giants I am as objective as can be, even being criticized by Michael Strahan during a twitter conversation cause I was being too hard on Osi Umenyiora a couple of years back. By the way Osi is one of favorite active Giants and Strahan is my second favorite all time behind Lawrence Taylor.

Excusing Tony Romo for Lack of Clutchness Gene

As I watched and listened to sports television and radio today, the Cowboys and Tony Romo were front and center. Coach Eric Mangini to the delight of Skip Bayless actually found a way to excuse Romos play this past Sunday. Skip Bayless even suggested that the Dallas QB threw the first interception on purpose in order to give his good friend Bobby Carpenter a chance to shine during what seemed to be a blow out win for Dallas. That interception by the way started the Cowboys downfall.

Instead of making excuses take a look at the facts. Tony Romo has won one playoff game in 6 years despite having what arguably is considered by many some of the NFL's most talented players surrounding him year after year. Jerry Jones defends him even after a bad performance. Yet this week when Jerry approached Tony in the sideline there was a clear riff between them when Tony pulled his arm away from the owner.

Tony Romo went undrafted in 2003, and was later signed as a free agent by the Dallas Cowboys. He has shown glimpses of greatness but the reality far outweighs those moments in time. He doesn't possess a great arm, he doesn't consistently make great decisions. As a matter of fact he seems to make his worst mistakes and has his worst lapses at the most inopportune times. He has been pampered by Jerry Jones, fans and even the media including Skip Bayless who in my opinion has lost an objective point of view.

There are intangibles which Romo lacks, Bayless claims Tony has what Lebron James lacks which is a "clutch gene". Really? Why cause he won a couple of insignificant games and plays well in the first three quarters? Clutchness is measured during the playoffs and in 4th quarters, for all the criticism that Eli Manning takes he has much more of a clutch gene than Tony Romo!

First of all you have to win a playoff game then you have to win the Super Bowl in order to hold such a party on the field. Have some self respect, some dignity act like you expect to win the game not as if you were fortunate enough to have the opposing team miss an easy tackle for you to score. Oh wait that is what happened isn't it? No wonder Tony Romo and company are having such a celebration along with Jerry Jones and the rest of the suits. Dallas is just happy to be lucky enough to win the game, truly PATHETIC!

The Dallas Cowboys led by head coach Wade Phillips lost last night versus the New York Giants.

There were several factors which contributed to their week 2 loss. The number one factor was simple, Big Blue just out played them and found a way to win a grind it out game as I predicted. New York however did receive some help from Tony Romo and the pass defense or lack thereof.

Another factor was their head coach Wade Phillips. He has had some success as a head coach with a couple of NFL teams but that success is limited to the regular season, almost sounds like Tony Romo's story. Phillips seems to run his teams with a laid back attitude, it almost seems as if he wants to be buddies with his players rather than their head coach. The most recognized football team in the NFL, the team with the most fans unfortunately are the Cowboys. How is this mild mannered, happy go lucky, soft man the leader of America's team?

In yesterdays game against the NY Giants Wade made a couple of very questionable decisions which baffled me as I sat there watching a thrilling ending. As Big Blue led by Eli Manning marched down the field and got within field goal range, at no point did Phillips call a time out to try and stop the clock. This was a huge mistake! New York was purposely allowing time to run off in order to leave the Cowboys as little time as possible after the 3 point score. Where was Wade's head at? You could clearly see that Manning was under complete control and had a plan. It was even more evident after the Giants decided to run one extra play with 13 seconds left in order to kill more time despite being within Lawrence Tynes range. Eli was in a groove, he has always been very good in the no huddle offense. You would think that the Cowboys would call a time out just to stop the Giants momentum and also to provide a bit of rest for their defensive players. By calling a time out or two they could have rested defensive players, reset their defense, stopped the Giants momentum and they would have probably left time on the clock to at least receive a kickoff after the field goal.

Another blunder was when Phillips' called the time out during the first attempt by Tynes. Even coach Dungy who now works for NBC commented on the questionable decision. Wade waited until the very last millisecond to call the timeout which allowed Lawrence to get the kick off and get his stride. He should have called the timeout well before the kicker could hit the ball in order to ice him. As a matter of fact if you watch the video, the first kick barely clears the side of the upright. The second kick on the other hand was perfectly down the middle. He gave Tynes the opportunity to get a warm up kick and his stride!

For a couple of years now Wade Phillips has had some of the best talent in the NFL under him and Dallas still cannot win playoff games. He is more of an assistant coach in my opinion than a head coach and Jerry Jones knows it. He must like the guy a whole lot but I am sure this will be the last year for Wade as the Cowboys head man unless they win the Super Bowl. Jason Garrett is still waiting for his chance and there may also be big time coaches available next season such as Mike Shanahan, Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher, who by the way have all won at least one Super Bowl.

Tony Romo had a horrible day while Eli Manning had a great one.

New York still experienced many issues in the Red Zone and truly made this a closer game than it should have been. Lawrence Tynes missed an easy field goal and NY failed to score touchdowns in the red zone on 3 occasions coming away with only field goals.

Tony Romo was not sacked but did feel the pressure which led to 3 interceptions. His stats were terrible 13-29 for 127 yards. Surprisingly enough Dallas was able to stop the Giants potent running game but they could not stop Eli Manning and his young receiving core most notably Mario Manningham and Steve Smith who both had 10 catches and over 100 yards and each scored a touchdown.

Eli Manning was 25-38, threw for 330 yards and 2 touchdowns. He led Big Blue down the field in the last two minutes and helped position them for the game winning field goal by Lawrence Tynes. Let us not forget the great job the New York offensive line did in this game, they created very nice pockets and provided ample time for Eli so that he could pick the Cowboys defense apart.

Kenny Phillips was a standout on the defensive side with 2 interceptions and so was Bruce Johnson who intercepted a ball from Tony and ran it back for a defensive touchdown.

This was an impressive win for the Giants, they were missing 6 starters, including key players in Aaron Ross, Kevin Dockery and Chris Canty. They silenced 105,000+ in Dallas on Sunday night.

Week 2 of the 2009 NFL season features a tough matchup between the NY Football Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. The game is scheduled for Sunday 9/20/09 at 8:20pm.

Every game is important but even more so when we play NFC East rivals. Playoff implications begin week one as far as I am concerned especially when you play on the East coast with talented teams such as the Redskins, Eagles and Cowboys, arguably the toughest division in all of football. None of the teams mentioned above including the Giants were under 500 last year.

The Cowgirls beat the Tampa Bay Bucs this past Sunday and I have to say I was not very impressed. I was however suprised at how well the Bucs looked with their new coach and practically new team. Tampa Bay has lost or fired many of their core veterans and also their coach Jon "Chucky" Gruden. The game was very tight going into the 4th quarter, I believe it was 20-14 when Romo connected for a long TD pass. They had 2 huge plays in this game courtesy of broken coverages by the secondary. I do not see these types of lucky plays occurring when the Giants play them.

This game should have been much easier for Dallas, the score reflects an easy game but the reality is that it was close until a big play in the last quarter as previously mentioned. Cadillac Williams and Ward ran all over them so imagine what Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw will do to them.

Tony Romo had a good game stats wise but he threw a couple of balls that should have been intercepted. The Giants always put a lot of pressure on Tony, he usually runs around trying to extend the play and makes mistakes and I can see that happening this Sunday night.

I expect the Giants to win this game even though we are playing at Dallas in their new stadium which should be a ruckus atmosphere. As of now many Vegas outlets have the Cowboys as a 3 point favorite a few have it even. It will be a tough game but then again New York is used to playing these grind it out affairs. Big Blue all the way!
