NY Giants Need to Beat the Bengals Week 10 – Game Preview

NY Giants vs Cincinnati Bengals Week 10The New York Giants (6-3) travel to Cincinnati Week 10 to face the Bengals (3-5), game scheduled for 1:00pm Sunday.

Big Blue missed out on a golden opportunity week 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They let a lead slip away in the 4th quarter, a win would have put significant distance betwen them and the rest of the NFC East.

The good news is that they are still ahead in the Division and face an easier match-up than last week. By no means am I trying to insinuate that it will be an easy win, I know better than that! The Giants rarely make any games easy!

The New York Giants are clearly the better offensive team in both passing and rushing. The issue is health at this point in time. WR Hakeem Nicks continues to have issues along with RB's Ahmad Bradshaw and Andre Brown who are all currently on the injury report.

Ahmad seems to be able to play through his injuries more often than not but it is still hindering his play. Despite these setbacks the GMEN are deep on offense and can still overcome most of the issues especially against a team with a sub-par defense (ranked higher than our though).

The Giants on average score 28.3 points per game compared to the Bengals at 23.6. The Bengals may not be the most talented team in the NFL but they can score. The Giants propensity to have lapses on defense is something to watch out for. However on offense Advantage New York Giants.

Statistically the Bengals are better than the Giants, they have a better overall ranking and also rank higher in both rushing and passing defense. Statistics don't always show the full picture of course. Stats don't tell us which teams (offenses) these defenses have faced. It doesn't provide specifics on injuries, momentum and so forth.

New York has not shown much on offense the last two weeks but they have faced top defensive teams in the Steelers (ranked 1st) and the Cowboys (ranked 5th). The Bengals are not in that league so it should be easier for the talented Giants offense to move the chains. The only worry for Big Blue fans is the ineptitude of the team inside the red zone. Hopefully Kevin Gilbride won't assume Field Goal Coordinator duties this week and act like an Offensive Coordinator for a change.

The Giants defense also brings a lot of pressure which I'm sure the Bengals QB has yet to see. Statistically the Bengals are better but will give the advantage to the Giants when you factor in our defensive line against their offense and QB's.

Conclusion - Prediction for Week 10

The New York Giants should be able to beat the Cincinnati Bengals week 10. Their offense should be able to gain yards on the Cincy defense. We can "should" all day but the game still has to be played on the field. Big Blue has to limit their silly mistakes and lapses and Killdrive has to open up the playbook from quarter 1 not wait until the 4th quarter. If Gilbride has implemented a decent plan of attack it may be very possible that the Giants will not have to play catch-up in the final minutes of the game and can MAYBE win and easy one for a change!

  • NY Rosco says:

Gilbride better have a better game plan this week or else the Giants will lose this game. The Bengals may not be a top team but they aren’t the 2008 Lions either who went 0-16.

  • Barry R says:

If New York loses this game they will come apart like they do every season around this time. I like the Giants but they are capable of stinking up the joint with their play.

  • Amedar says:

This game has me nervous because as a fan you just never know which gmen team will come on game day. The gmen can be very lazy at times and the bengals can score like you pointed out. Scary game for us.
