Week 5 NY Giants vs Cleveland Browns Preview
After a very disappointing loss in week 4 versus the Eagles the GMEN have an "easy" (note the quotes) game. This should be an opportunity for New York to get back on track. Last week in my preview I stressed that the Giants were going to find it difficult to win if they did not contain Vick. Unfortunately they didn't.
This week however, I do not have any such worries but as we well know its rare when the Giants make it an easy game.
NY Giants and Cleveland Browns on Offense
The Browns are a very bad team, sorry but there is no other way to put it. They rank 25th in overall offense, the Giants rank 7th. Cleveland ranks 20th in passing (Giants 2nd) and 27th overall when it comes to rushing (Giants 23rd).
The GMEN's rushing game has been dismal the last 2 seasons but they will be looking to get a healthy Bradshaw back into a rhythm along with Andre Brown. That is a nice tandem that should only get better.
Comparing the Defenses
Both defenses have not been very good at all. The Giants rank 23rd overall while the Browns are 25th overall. New York should have a field day in the passing game, the Browns rank 28th allowing on average 286 yards per game through the air. Big Blue ranks 19th allowing 254 yards via the pass to opposing teams.
As team stats go, the Cleveland Browns are slightly better than the NY Giants. The Browns rank 19th when it comes to defending the run. That's not very impressive but it's better than 21st which is the Giants current rush defensive ranking. Granted those totals were padded last week when the GMEN defense allowed LeSean McCoy and Michael Vick to run all over them.
The New York Giants find themselves playing at home against one of the worst teams in the NFL. They are favored by a whopping 9 points. This should be an easy game without any drama, it's one of the few on the schedule. A loss against the Browns will put the Giants organization and fans on red alert!
