NY Giants Do It Again! They Lose a Winnable Game – This Time Against the Eagles
The New York Giants always seem to find ways to lose winnable games. Week 4 was no different versus the Philadelphia Eagles, they lost 19-17 in a heart breaker.
In my Preview for week 4 Giants vs Eagles, I stated this game would not be a gimme. I was worried about the Giants tendency to play down to their competition. Another worry was the containment of Michael Vick. Unfortunately, as a Big Blue fan I know my team well.
The GMEN are one of the most talented teams in the NFL but they lack discipline and only seem to get everything together when it is all on the line. This week it failed, I don't want to sound like a sore loser or like Cam Newton but this loss wasn't so much about what the Eagles did as much as it was about the Giants not playing a smart complete game.
New York Giants Mistakes Against the Philadelphia Eagles
The first thing that jumped out was containment and once again the lack of discipline. Osi Umenyiora kept getting played by both Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy. The Eagles RB rushed for 123 yards on 23 carries. Vick ran for 49 yards and it was obvious they were trying to turn the corner. Jason Pierre-Paul was caught a few times as well. Neither one made adjustments, they kept coming in tight trying to get a sack or tackle instead of recognizing that both Vick and McCoy were expecting and hoping they would do that. It almost seemed like a boxer counter punching another. A fighter being counter punched every time he throws a blow and not realizing his opponent has planned it that way. One other person that should be mentioned is Corey Webster who was beaten badly several times by Jackson.
Another huge mistake came from Eli Manning on a crucial 4th quarter drive that should have ended in a TD or at the very least a FG. Manning threw his only interception in the end zone when he was targeting Martellus Bennett but under threw the pass. That changed the whole momentum of the game.
WR Ramses Barden had a great game last week, this week not so much. He dropped a pass in the 4th quarter which he should have secured and he also made the biggest blunder of the game. An offensive pass interference on Nnamdi Asomugha, this mistake pushed the Giants back 10 yards on their field goal attempt. Instead of it being a makable 44 yarder it turned into a 54 yard attempt.
Kicker Lawrence Tynes doesn't get off that easy either. He has always had a decent leg but you just never know where his kicked balls are going to end up. He blasted the first attempt and missed it by a bit, luckily Eagles head coach Andy Reid had called a timeout providing Tynes a second opportunity. At this point I felt confident that he would be able to get it down the middle. He did not disappoint, after getting a second chance he lined that kick up perfectly. He played it so safe on the kick that it ended up 4 yards short! Really inexcusable for someone with his leg to come up short on a second attempt.
The New York Giants running game was non existing, regardless of who ran the ball. Ahmad Bradshaw was really running hard but was unable to get much going, he ended his evening with only 39 yards on 13 attempts. Andre Brown wasn't much better with 5 runs for 14 yards.
The GMEN Better Be Careful
The New York Giants are a good team but their silly mistakes consistently put them in positions to lose winnable games. The Eagles are not very good, their 3 wins have come on 4 total points. They should be 0-4 yet they sit atop the NFC East with a 3-1 record. New York better be careful, they are 2-2 and both their losses were against division rivals. If they keep playing to the level of their competition they will quickly find themselves out of a playoff run especially with the tough teams left on their schedule.

not worried, our giants will make the playoffs and then its on. similar to last season we are going to take it all, i like what i see so far, eliminate the mistakes and our team is solid. eagles on the other hand have issues, they arent going to continue to get lucky every game.
Yeah the play calling from the 27 yrd line late in the game was suspect. We need to step it up, but a good cure for this type of game is the Browns.
The frustration level with this team is going to give me a heart attack one of these days. They had this game won several times, the interception was big but even more so all the little things added up.
It’s come to the point that I wished the Giants would play all the good teams like the 49ers and Packers already so that they can play high quality football. I know it sounds stupid but they do play better when faced with better opposition. Eagles are a joke, lucky team.
Eli’s interception was a blow which cost us the game. Barden made a bonehead mistake but why was Manning throwing a bomb in that instance instead of getting yards to make it an easier fg? Bad play call by either Gilbride or a bad decision by Eli Manning.
the giants get me so angry with these games where they just let teams hang around. eli has been great this season but he still will make dumb mistakes once in a while which kill our drives. that interception hurt. it changed the game.
