Eli Manning and Giants Prove To Be Cam Newtons Kryptonite
This wasn't even close! At half time it was 20-0. Panthers QB Cam Newton scored and performed his Superman TD celebration, the only issue was that his team was down 23-6. If Cam is Superman, the Giants are his Kryptonite!
No Hakeem Nicks, Ahmad Bradshaw, David Diehl or Domenik Hixon? Well no problem for the GMEN! They dominated both sides of the field and now have a record of 2-1. QB Eli Manning threw for 288 yards and completed 27 of 35 passes, no interceptions and 1 TD. Manning was taken out in the middle of the 4th quarter and backup David Carr came in for mop up duty.
Other NY Giants Standouts Versus The Carolina Panthers
Andre Brown had a career night rushing for 113 yards on 20 carries and scoring 2 touchdowns. WR Ramses Barden also stepped up with a career game, he caught 9 passes for 138 yards. New acquisition Martellus Bennett caught 6 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown.
The Giants defense also came up big. LB Michael Boley was all over the field. He was credited for half a sack and also got himself an interception. The defense ended with 2 sacks overall and 3 interceptions, they pressured the Carolina QB all night long. Cam Newton was OWNED by the Giants, he threw 3 interceptions, no passing TD's, 242 yards and completed only 16 of 30 passes.
This was a really impressive win for the New York Giants when you take into account all the injuries to key players. They were facing a Panthers team who had just beat up on the New Orleans Saints during week 2. It would have been an easy week to be down and play without much effort especially since they had just played on Sunday. But instead the Giants came out and played like Champions and players stepped up and filled in for the injured starters. Week 4 will be a tough game against Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles who currently are 2-0 and lead the NFC East.
