NY Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul (JPP) Has Arrived

Jason Pierre-Paul JPPAttention NFL offenses NY Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul a.k.a. JPP has arrived!

The talented New York Defensive End has made a huge impact this season, picking up the slack while key players like Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora deal with injuries.

JPP is an imposing figure standing 6'5" tall and weighing 278 pounds with an 81" wingspan. He possesses incredible athleticism and quickness especially for such a big man. Many have compared him to "The Freak" Jevon Kearse due to his natural abilities. Jason Pierre-Paul has even been known to do backflips while wearing full pads.

JPP began playing organized football relatively late but has proven to be a quick learner and naturally gifted for the sport.

Jason Pierre-Paul - JPP Road to the NFL

Jason Pierre-Paul was born on February 28, 1989 in Deerfieled Beach, Florida. He is of Haitian descent, his parents Jean Pierre-Paul and Marie came to the United States in the early 1980's.

Growing up JPP wanted to be a basketball player and excelled at the sport playing for Deerfield Beach High School. Unfortunately he broke his leg and eventually gravitated towards football with the insistence of the Deerfield Beach H.S. football coach Greg Minnis who saw something special in him.

When asked about coach Minnis persuing him and eventually convincing him to play JPP said

He dragged me into football. At first, I didn't like it. I didn't really understand everything. When I started to understand everything, it grew on me.

After High School Jason went to the College of the Canyons and the following year to Fort Scott Community College. His grades were an issue so he had to go through junior colleges in order to work his way back into bigger football programs. Several of the so called "Big" schools showed interest.

Pierre-Paul eventually opted for the USF Bulls in 2009 where he was a standout defensive player. He only played one season with the University of South Florida where he recorded 6.5 sacks, 45 tackles and even had one interception. JPP took a chance after his junior year of college and entered the NFL draft. He was considered by many football experts a raw talent with a lot of potential upside but also a high risk pick especially in the first round.

The NY Giants recognized that talent and selected Jason Pierre-Paul in the first round as the 15th overall pick of the 2010 NFL draft.

Living in the Tampa area I was able to watch JPP often and was impressed with his God given talent. I was definitely excited when New York selected him. There were some boo's when the selection was announced from fans who obviously had never seen him play. He has quickly silenced critics with his performances and has become a force at defensive end for NY.

Bright Future for JPP in New York

Surrounded by extremely talented defensive players such as Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck and Mathias Kiwanuka, JPP has an incredible opportunity to play and learn from the best. He has displayed the ability New York was betting on and unlike many players coming out of college he has already been thrown into the fire and has performed exceptionally. He currently ranks 2nd overall in the NFL in sacks with 7.5, six weeks into the 2011 season.

The NY Giants signed their talented DE Jason Pierre-Paul to a 5 year contract worth $20 million with more than $11.5 million guaranteed.

The Giants are full of young player with alot of talent and JPP is definitely heading that list. He is a BEAST and an atheltic FREAK!

  • BleedNYBlue says:

Good article, I thought Jason Pierre-Paul had played 3 years for the USF Bulls. Had no clue he had gone to junior college or that he only started playing foorball just a few years ago. Shows what a naturally gifted athelete he really is.

  • Jacko says:

I wasn’t sure about JPP but I am now convinced he is going to be a pro bowl player several times over. May be the steal of the 2010 draft.

  • Trent says:

Not sure Pierre-Paul is in the same class as Jevon Kearse who was a true freak of nature in the NFL. Jason has good tools though he just isn’t as explosive as Kearse was maybe due to the broken leg he suffered. Still a good player may be a dominant one in the future.

  • GiantsBabe86 says:

I wonder if the Giants are now willing to let Osi Umenyiora go since they have Jason Pierre-Paul. Imagine having all 3, Osi, JPP and Justin Tuck on the same line, WOW.

  • CP Jackson says:

JPP has enough talent to surpass Michael Strahan as the Giants all time sacks leader, he is very young and already shows a high skill set.

  • USF Bull says:

I watched Jason Pierre-Paul play at USF, he is the real deal for sure. Only reason I watch Giants games now is to see him play. JPP will only get better to he is very young.

  • Sal Lorenzo says:

JPP is a beast! What a season he is having but like most of the Giants he is overlooked. They NFL put Jason Pierre-Paul in the Pro Bowl ballot and now took him off without warning.
