Plaxico Burress Seeks Work Release

plaxico burressEx New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is expecting a ruling on his most recent application for work release.

Burress who has been in prison since 2009 after he shot himself in the leg with his unlicensed hand gun at a New York night club had previously applied for work release but had been denied. A ruling on this recent application is expected by the 9th of September.

Plaxico Burress now 32 years old is hoping to resume his NFL career as soon as possible. There will be some hurdles to overcome in order to get released. Programs which allow early departure from prison for work purposes implement rules and regulations such as a Monday through Friday work week which will be an issue being that most NFL games are played on Sunday. There are also regulation prohibiting travel outside state lines and of course as a football player Plaxico would be required to travel throughout the United States. His lawyers are optimistic and working hard to try and get these regulations waved due to the special circumstances of their clients profession.

Assuming he is released it will be interesting to see how many times will want his services. At 32 years of age he still may have some gas left in the tank but the baggage Plaxico Burress brings may be to much for most teams to want to deal with. He is a one time offender when it comes to criminal charges but he is a repeat offender when it comes to being a bad teammate who does not like participating in practices and team activities.

It remains to be seen if prison has changed and humbled Plaxico Burress.
