NY Giants Dazed and Confused
Another disappointing game in week 8 for the NY Giants football team. The Philadelphia Eagles ran Eli Manning and Big Blue over.
The game got out of hand right of the bat. For the third straight week New York looked dazed and confused out there.
The Saints exposed the Giants defense a few weeks ago, the Cardinals stopped the offense and the Eagles beat NY in every phase of the game including special teams.
Before half time with less than two minutes to go, the G-Men score a touchdown bringing the deficit to a manageable 16-7. Fans are thinking great we can work with this, but with less than two minutes to go New York falls apart and allows 14 points before the half to bring the score to 30-7. It's unheard of for a Tom Coughlin team to fall apart this way. The Giants have looked unprepared, uninspired and confused out there. Eli Manning has reverted back to his undisciplined ways of past years where he would chuck balls up in the air and hope for the best. Manning is a tough guy and I wonder if his foot injury is affecting him, Eli has not been the same ever since the injury.
Big Blue has now dropped to third in the NFC East behind the Eagles and Cowboys and the next game against the San Diego Chargers will be a tough one. New York is allowing huge plays through the air and have lost their ability to rush the passer which spells doom when facing Phillip Rivers, Antonio Gates and Vincent Jackson. Week 9's game is a MUST WIN! They have a bye week after this game and it would make a huge difference going into their off week 6-3 instead of 5-4 now that Dallas and Philly are playing good football.
It is hard to determine how to fix the issues the Giants are having, they seem to have lost their edge and physicality and also their discipline in every aspect of the game. As I have stated before the Giants are known for being disciplined, physical and having the ability to execute their plays and control the clock. This year the offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride has become pass happy and has made horrible calls on 3rd and shorts which have cost the Giants big time. He keeps calling for bombs and deep passes instead of shorter plays that are easier to execute which would provide us possession of the ball and continue drives instead of killing them.
Defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan has not been able to fill in for Steve Spagnuolo. The defense has Osi Umenyiora back and should be able to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks but it has not worked out that way. The front four are getting pushed around by linemen and outplayed. The secondary has been weak, key injuries have contributed to the lack of good play in coverage but never the less there is no reason why pressure is not being put on QB's.
We are in a code red here, critical condition, a must win game to save the season and it is only week 9.
