NY Giants Overmatched by New Orleans Saints

The final score was 48-27 between the NY Football Giants vs the New Orleans Saints in week 6 game played on 10/18.
Drew Brees took apart the G-Men top ranked defense. Big Blue played a horrible game from the opening kickoff. There were several questionable play calls by the offensive coordinator for New York and some serious defensive deficiencies which can be blamed on both the players but also Defensive Coordinator Bill Sheridan.
I know the score does not reflect my opinion but the Giants had a chance to win this game, they played uninspired and were just beaten by a team that wanted it more. On the opening drive a Big Blue secondary player had a chance for an interception but instead he tipped the ball and it landed in wide receiver Lance Moore's hand for a big gain and a first down. Eventually Brees lead his team to a score.
When we got the ball on offense we had a clear opportunity to continue a drive on a 3rd and 3 play. You would think we would have a play designed for this type of short yardage and I imagine we do but instead the play call was for a deep throw which was not completed. We were down 14-0 at this point and wasted a great opportunity to complete a short pass for a first down and prolong the drive keeping our defense off the field and rested but even more important keeping Drew and his explosive offensive unit on the sidelines. This was a ridiculous play call.
On our very next drive we have a 3rd and 5 and guess what we do? Manning throws a bomb down field which is off the fingertips of our wide receiver and another drive is lost due to terrible play calling. Why would Gilbride not call a play designed to get the first down? The game completely changed after this. Three plays mentioned above created a situation where the Giants were behind the eight ball right from the start.
I do not want to act as if New York did not get beat fair and square, they pretty much were taken to school by a better team who was better prepared and better coached, simple as that! With that being said there was chance to slow down the momentum of the Saints with better play calling on both offense and defense.
What the heck is Bill Sheridan doing? Where was the pressure? It was non existent, the G-Men are playing on reputation and not accomplishments. I will be writing an article just on Sheridan, I just do not see this guy being able to handle his current position as Defensive Coordinator, he seems lost when it comes to play calling.
The season is far from over and losses like this can be a blessing in disguise. Maybe Big Blue will learn a lot from this and come back down to earth and have a reality check. They can play better and can improve on many phases of their game. The easy part of the 2009 schedule is done, they face much tougher opposition in the upcoming weeks and they better get their act together and play with more passion. If the NY Giants do not stop making mental mistakes they will find themselves behind the Eagles and fighting for a playoff spot instead of cruising into one.
