NY Giants vs. Oakland Raiders Week 5

The NY Giants return home to take on the Oakland Raiders on Sunday 10/11/09. Week 5 should be another easy win for the G-Men but it still remains to be seen if Eli Manning will be ready to play after the injury he suffered during week 4 versus the Chiefs.
Big Blue is rolling along and taking care of business, while the Raiders have had a start they wish they could forget. These two teams are truly going in opposite directions this 2009 season.
Total Offense:
The Giants rank 4th in the league averaging 26.8 points per game and 401 total yards per game. Oakland is ranked dead last (32nd) with a 10.5 points average per game and averaging only 208.5 yards per game.
Total Defense:
New York is the number one overall defense in the NFL giving up only 16 points per game and allowing opposing offenses only 232.2 total yards per game. The Raiders are ranked as the 18th defense allowing 21.5 points per game and giving up an average of 356.8 total yards to opposing teams on offense.
Passing:
The G-Men are surprisingly ranked 8th in total passing while the Raiders are ranked in the 32nd (last) position. While Eli Manning and his young receiving core flourishes the Oakland passing attack is almost non existent under Jamarcus Russell who did not transition well from college to the NFL.
Passing Defense:
The NY Giants are the number 1 ranked passing defense in the league allowing only 115 ypg in the air. Oakland is ranked 13th allowing 210.5 yards per game.
Rushing:
Big Blue is ranked 6th in rushing averaging 145.5 ypg. The Raiders are ranked 28th averaging 88.8 yards per game.
Rushing Defense:
New York ranks 18th in overall rushing defense. We have not had a great year when it comes to defending the run but it should improve this week when facing the 28th ranked rushing attack. Oakland is ranked int he 26th position in this category.
On paper it should not be a contest. The Giants possess the best passing defense and they are going against the worst passing attack in the league. I would say Oakland's only chance would be running the ball but they rank 26th. We have the number one overall defense and there should be a ton of pressure on the Raiders QB.
Keep an eye out on the status of Eli Manning, even if he does not play David Carr should be able to fill in and manage the game without losing it for us. We should have at least one defensive or special teams touchdown in this game. Looks like another easy win for the NY Giants.

Eli Manning may not play. You seem confident about Carr playing for Eli but that guys sucks. I get worried with trap games. Remember last year when we played the Browns?
