Giants vs Cowboys

Week 2 of the 2009 NFL season features a tough matchup between the NY Football Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. The game is scheduled for Sunday 9/20/09 at 8:20pm.

Every game is important but even more so when we play NFC East rivals. Playoff implications begin week one as far as I am concerned especially when you play on the East coast with talented teams such as the Redskins, Eagles and Cowboys, arguably the toughest division in all of football. None of the teams mentioned above including the Giants were under 500 last year.

The Cowgirls beat the Tampa Bay Bucs this past Sunday and I have to say I was not very impressed. I was however suprised at how well the Bucs looked with their new coach and practically new team. Tampa Bay has lost or fired many of their core veterans and also their coach Jon "Chucky" Gruden. The game was very tight going into the 4th quarter, I believe it was 20-14 when Romo connected for a long TD pass. They had 2 huge plays in this game courtesy of broken coverages by the secondary. I do not see these types of lucky plays occurring when the Giants play them.

This game should have been much easier for Dallas, the score reflects an easy game but the reality is that it was close until a big play in the last quarter as previously mentioned. Cadillac Williams and Ward ran all over them so imagine what Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw will do to them.

Tony Romo had a good game stats wise but he threw a couple of balls that should have been intercepted. The Giants always put a lot of pressure on Tony, he usually runs around trying to extend the play and makes mistakes and I can see that happening this Sunday night.

I expect the Giants to win this game even though we are playing at Dallas in their new stadium which should be a ruckus atmosphere. As of now many Vegas outlets have the Cowboys as a 3 point favorite a few have it even. It will be a tough game but then again New York is used to playing these grind it out affairs. Big Blue all the way!

Cowboys are overrated, they always have been!

  • FootballCrazy:

I don’t think Romo can deal with the pressure he will see Sunday. He is going to be harassed all night long.

  • Cowboys Rock:

Cowboys overrated? TheFan we will see who is better after this sundays game. It will not even be close, blow out by the BOYS.

I gotta agree with Mr. Cowboys fan here. I think that the game is overated. We all make our guesses from time to time but it’s important to remember that they are just guesses. The Boys aren’t overated, neither are the Giants. The Giants have an outstanding defense…but lots of injuries. Both starting CB’s are banged up and Canty, the big run stopper is gone too. The Cowboys Defense is unimpressive, but the offense is very impressive. The Cowboys have a better running tandum with Barber-Jones-Choice then the Giants with Jacobs-Bradshaw-Ware…though both running games are nearly unstoppable. Both QB’s are outstanding, Romo has the edge due to it’s September, not December, and the Boys are at home. The O-lines are an even match. Both very good running O-lines. Romo will get sacked more than Manning but Romo will throw to a much better receiving core. WR’s and TE’s go to the Boys. Overall D goes to the Giants, except the seconday which is clearly owned by Dallas in this particular game. I saw both week one games and the Giants didn’t impress me Offensively at all. Great field position is key for them. Special teams is to the Cowboys however, a fake FG for a touchdown because the punter outran everybody…not impressive. This one will go to the Boys with ease…when they meet in the Medowlands will be a different story. If I’m wrong about this game right here, then the Giants will win their next three and go home in good enough form that they should probably take the division…Here’s a question for you football peeps: How many teams in the NFC East will make the playoffs?

nflfanngeneral are you kidding me? You think the Dallas running game is better the New York’s? That;s crazy lol. The Giants had the number one running attack last year and we got better this year. Ahmad as the #2 is much better than Ward and on top of that we will have Ware back soon is also very good. The Giants are mssing 6 starters and most from the defense this week and we will still win.

  • Lazaro:

Giants will win by a field goal. Romo is gonna get hit often.

  • Cowboys Rock:

nflfanngeneral very well said, Lazaro you are gonna have a reality check on Sunday.

So I stand correct about all but one thing…Dallas lost. And both teams were very impressive, besides Romo lol…What a train wreck he was. How about little Manning? Looking more like Tom Brady in his prime. The Giants are the team to beat. If they could beat the boys with the lack of players, in Dallas nonetheless…they can beat anyone. Giants best team in league? Not all that crazy…MOE, I was right and you were wrong. I picked the wrong team understandably, but the Cowboys running game is better than the G-men who were dominated by Dallas throughout the entire game…you did watch the same game as I did right? No excuses for Dallas, but they embarrased Jacobs and Bradshaw. This game came down to the better QB, and Dallas Fans…don’t even attempt to say that’s Romo. If the Giants had the Dallas receiving core, they would be force untouchable. Romo has many weapons, but he’s middle of the road at best…shines at times but when the spot light shines on a big game there’s a whole lotta chokeing going on. And to you Giants lovers…well you have alot to be proud of because your team went into a hostile atmosphere to take on a team that was great, a rival, and on a mission, and despite all the negatives weighing in on the Giants, they came out victorious. In the famous words of Rudy Tomjonovic…”Never underestimate the heart of a champion.” NEW PREDICTION: Giants off to a 5-0 start. Dallas will be 4-1. Philly 4-1…NFC East is the best division in football and you gotta love it! Hear from ya’ll soon!

  • nflfanngeneral:

    Lazaro…outstanding prediction man!

It was a great game indeed and I knew it would be a grind it out affair like my article says but I was very surprised to see how we won. I expected Dallas to give up huge yards on the run not the pass. It almost seemed as if Dallas was fixated on stopping the run that they forgot about the pass. Manning was absolutely impressive. Romo was just terrible, he is a better QB than that but he is not a top QB in the NFL like most would like to believe. Remember he is stacked with a very talented receiving core which includes one of the best tight ends.
